Ger begränsning av koldioxid begränsning av frihet?

Har ni funderat över vad som händer om USA antar det radikala lagförslaget om utsläppsrätter (bara senaten kan nu stoppa det) och sedan Köpenhamnsmötet (där en ledande isbjörnsexpert som envisas med sanning stoppats) trots allt får viss framgång?

Jag tänker att det bäddar för lidande och i värsta fall ett slags massmord, om vår civilisation tar till drastiska minskningar av fossilenergin. Världens fattiga skulle drabbas både av västs ekonomiska avbräck och hinder för dem att nyttja fossilbränsle.

En förekommande tanke är att reglering av fossilenergi är bra då oljan håller på att ta slut. Men arabländerna utvinner idag mer olja än någonsin och har visst ett 50-tal outnyttjade fält och världens oljereserv har ökat rekordsnabbt. Ingen peak oil i sikte.

Men även om peak oil inträffar är inte reglering önskvärt. På en marknad används billigaste alternativ och om oljeresurserna skulle minska leder prisökning till ökad energieffektivitet och till att andra energikällor används. (Kanske fusionskraft om 30-40 år? Fordon lär kunna bli långt mer effektiva och världen skulle då inte säg tredubbla fossilenergiförbrukning när fattigare länder blir rika, som man annars antar.)

Nedan några stycken ur "The vindication of carbon means the vindication of human freedom" (PDF), där Robert Brinsmead, hortonom och frilansskribent, bl a söker upprätta kolets rykte samt varnar för att koldioxidjakten kan skapa ett kontrollsamhälle. Jag anser att man bör tro på forskare, och om IPCC har rätt håller alltså Brinsmeads inte måttet. Men om alla de forskare, ofta mer gedigna än nyckelpersoner i IPCC, som trots påtryckningar kritiserar IPCC har rätt kan Brinsmead vara rätt ute. Har han rätt? Är han för dystopisk?

Efter ett stycke om kol och växtriket:

"When we turn to the animal kingdom, including mankind itself, we find too that leaping deer, frolicking seals, lumbering rhinos or thinking humans are all forms of animated carbon. In the human species we have thinking carbon through which the universe actually becomes conscious of itself. The human brain is the most complex and intricate piece of equipment in the universe. This is the organ of the human mind through which carbon not only becomes thinking carbon, but reaches the sublime heights of becoming caring, sharing, loving carbon.

So who is going to tell me that carbon is just some black old ugly stuff that deserves to be demonized as the world’s great pollutant? Stand back, and let your mind take into this whole wondrous biosphere - the living earth - and what you are surveying is the awesome wonder that carbon has come alive in the great dance of life."

"Be warned: this dangerous eco-Taliban wants to subject us to a carbon taxing, carbon regulating police state. It surely has to stand to reason that you can't regulate human carbon emissions without regulating every aspect of human existence - and that would be more totalitarian than anything the world has ever known. This is a religio/political ideology masquerading as science."

It is heartening to see that more and more scientists are waking up to the junk science of man-made global warming alarmism and that they are now coming out of the woodwork to say so. The movement to shut down our energy sources by a beat-up against CO2, if successful, would turn off the lights of civilization. It is fitting that the symbolism of the recent Earth Hour was darkness rather than light.

There has never been more than a small coterie of pseudo-science activists and social engineers driving this global warming alarmism cart. They have been remarkably successful in closing down the debate and silencing opposition by their big lie about their enjoying an overwhelming scientific consensus. They have intimidated a lot of scientists with the fear of losing academic funding if they should open their mouths with a contrary opinion.

As for the Media that refused to obey their own credo of rigorous investigative journalism, that ducked from asking the hard questions, that forgot they were supposed to be independent journalists instead of advocates for the popular hysteria, its integrity and credibility has been trashed by its own hand. Long live the free spirits of the Internet, the indefatigable bloggers who would not be silenced."

Även om klimattroende inte -- i alla fall inte ickesocialister -- ser upphävande av personlig frihet som mål skulle det nog kunna bli en konsekvens av personliga utsläppsrätter. Allt är ju möjligt. Men den planekonomiska ansats som finns i redan föreslagna utsläppsrättssystem anser jag är illavarslande nog, för ekonomi och jobb.

Beträffande sista styckets optimism om kritiken mot demonisering av koldioxid på Internet är jag dessvärre inte säker på att den ges tillräckligt inflytande om den inte även etableras i mainstram media och politik.

Det kan förresten tilläggas att stora utsläppsnedskärningar knappast är bra ens om IPCC har rätt. Detta debatterades här och jag kan rekommendera Björn Lomborgs bok Cool it. På svenska här.
