Det var som... Realism i mainstream-media!

Nämnde igår en Metro-artikel -- visserligen i USA -- som mest såg ut som vilken skeptikerblogg som helst.

Ser nu att brittiska The Independent igår hade artikeln The missing sunspots: Is this the big chill?, av Dr. David Whitehouse. En rätt bra artikel. Ur ett stycke:

"...there is another factor to be considered. When the Sun has gone quiet like this before, it coincided with the earth cooling slightly and there is speculation that a similar thing could happen now. If so, it could alter all our predictions of climate change, and show that our understanding of climate change might not be anywhere near as good as we thought."

Med solaktivitet är det kanske som det varit med svininfluensan. Vi vet inte var det landar. Om Theodor Landscheits teori är riktig (han prickade bl a in El Nino 1998) lutar det åt ett större solminimum över mitten av detta sekel, men som på fullt allvar kanske inte startar förrän 2014. Om statistik över solcyklers längd tas i beaktande befinner vi oss definitivt s a s på Dalton Minimum-mark. Om de indikationer vi har inte skulle leda till något av dessa mer kyliga alternativ lär ändå, menar nästan alla solforskare, två solcykler 20-25 år framåt bli svaga.


Ser vidare att The Australian har en artikel med välartikulerat försvar av Ian Plimers nya bok. Efter en bekriving av hur människor förr trodde att deras handlingar styrde naturen:

"Today, however, we look to the state to return us to the path of righteousness. Government can undo the wrongs that we have inflicted on the planet.

Think how much worse it would be for us if it could be demonstrated that the process of global warming were outside of human hands and unable to be manipulated by human efforts. The most we could do would be to adapt to the changes that are occurring. It would be a huge blow to humanity's ego.

What are the governments demanding reduction in carbon emissions, by restricting the development of reliable energy sources that are independent of the climate, going to do with the hungry cold mobs that are demanding food for their children and heat for their babies when the sun remains in it's slumber?"

Dalton minimum imleddes 1790, vilket var det år Carl Michael Bellman släppte Fredmans epistlar, där nummer 72 har orden "Solen nyss slocknat". ;-) En låt som ofta är ...olidligt pretentiöst framförd, men görs riktigt bra av Nina Ramsby.
