Exploring The End of the World in the Arctic

Ser på Watts blogg att det pågår en expedition i Arktis, mätandes isdjup. Tydligen har de stora problem att alls komma framåt då den rörliga isen flyttar dem tillbaka när sover i sina tält. Klicka på bilden till höger för att förstora den.

Så här har, enligt NSIDC, Arktis is rört sig mellan 1982 och 2007:



Expeditionen har samtidigt med hård vind haft temperaturen -40 grader Celsius, men även -50 grader nämns. BBC har detta videoklipp med bl a innehåll enligt mitt transkript nedan. Beträffande det fetstilta kom jag att tänka på Monte Pyton-sketchen under transkriptet. Låter väl rätt lika även i röst som tonläge... ;-)

- Can you try and tell us why the survey is so important and indeed so urgent that you are undertaken at the moment?

- Well the sea ice around the north pole region [...] some scientists are saying that this could become a seasonal feature only rather than a year around feature in less than 4 years from now. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in its last report was suggesting 50 to 100 years, but in fact [...] as scientists know it dates nearer to 2020, 2030. So we seem to be losing one of our planets defining surface glaciers, and the implications of a seasonal loss will affect almost everywhere on the planet, and almost everyone. There will be weather changes, wind changes, temperature changes, and rainfall changes largely unpredictable at this stage, given us the level of science available to us, and of course the global sea level rise will be accelerated as the protecting heat shield [...] is lost ...

En viss likhet finns väl... De klimatförändringar som Arktis-expeditionen nämnde var iofs "unpredictable", så är de värre? Nja, vilka klimatförändringar har varit förutsägbara.

Bara något ändras, vilket helt säkert sker, kan de nu säga: - Vad var det vi sa!

Men jag tror iofs att inte isen smälter som de tänkt, men år 2030 är de väl närmare sin pension och/eller är detta glömt.
